A mockup of the Orion spacecraft is currently under development by NASA. When completed, Orion will carry four to six astronauts to the International Space Station, the Moon, and then onwards to Mars. They may go to other places in the solar system where astronauts have not gone before.

NASA announced December 13, 2007, at the Johnson Space Center, that the new name for its 21st century lunar lander is Altair. Its official designation is Lunar Surface Access Module, or LSAM.

Boeing awarded NASA contract to build Ares 1 Instrument Unit Avionics ring

The Boeing Company announced Wednesday, December 12, 2007, that it was awarded the NASA contract to build the Instrument Unit Avionics (IUA) ring for the Ares 1 rocket, which will launch the Orion capsule into space.
