This week's release of Mac OS X 10.4.9 and iPhoto 6.0.6 plugs multiple security holes - including several identified by the Month of Apple Bugs - as well as delivering improved functionality in diverse areas such as Bluetooth, .Mac connectivity, networking and graphics drivers.
Some of those flaws can be exploited remotely, while others allow local users to increase their privileges.

Some sections of the IT media have dubbed 10.4.9 a 'megapatch' because it addresses more than 40 vulnerabilities including several publicised by the Month of Apple Bugs and the Month of Kernel Bugs.

But 10.4.9 isn't all about security - many functional improvements are included. Click here for iTWire's full report on Mac OS X 10.4.9.

Alongside 10.4.9, Apple also released iPhoto 6.0.6, a minor update to the consumer photo-management application. The announcement was vague, saying only that the update "addresses issues associated with EXIF data compatibility and Photocasting."

But in a separate security announcement, Apple said the photocasting issue was the one featured during the Month of Apple Bugs - a maliciously crafted photocast could cause the execution of arbitrary code.

Download the iPhoto 6.0.6 update via Software Update or Apple's web site.{moscomment}
