Skype has released a new version, 2.6, of its softphone for Mac's that enables a user to transfer an in-progress call to another person. It is the first major feature to make its debut on the Mac rather than the Windows version.

The version was announced in beta in April. iTWire observed at the time that "despite being the first to get a call transfer feature, functionality is still well behind the Windows version...because it does not support the new Skype Prime feature  which enables people to offer their services via Skype, and receive payment, or the new business directory, updateable by Skype users.

The first of these omissions at least has been remedied in the final release of 2.6, and, as announced with the release of 2.6 in beta, a number of other Skype features previously available only on other platforms have been added.

- Users can now join public chats;
- A chat typing indicator enables users to see when others are writing a message
- Automatic updates;
- The ability to send DTMF tones for automatic answering services during calls

Skype says that other improvements include tweaks in the way Skype handles birthday reminders and other notifications.{moscomment}
