Just days after releasing a new version of its softphone for Macs and boasting about its 'exclusive' features, Skype has released a bug-fixing update amid a growing chorus of discontent from users.

On May 17 Skype introduced version 2.6 (2.6.0.137)  of its Mac software, which had been released in beta in April, bragging that it was the first time a major feature had made its debut on the Mac rather than the Windows version.

Then, on 23 May it released version 2.6.0.140 with a list of bug fixes: an update for USB/Bluetooth audio, localization fixes; changing the menu item 'Rename...' to 'Edit Contact...' for SkypeOut contacts; fixing deleting header files from Skype framework and fixing a bug which caused a crash after forced upgrade.

The latest upgrade has spawned a number critical comments on Skype forums and blog sites: suggestions that Skype should concentrate on ironing out bugs before adding new features was a common theme.

Commentators also took issue with Skype's description of the product as " a little piece of software that lets you make free calls to anyone else on Skype, anywhere in the world." At over 30Mbytes, it hardly qualifies as little.{moscomment}
