Institutional funds manager QiC has abandoned its old Oracle HR system in favour of Empower-HR, an ASP-delivered alternative.

"We previously used Oracle for HR Payroll, but were looking for something more appropriate to the level of our needs,” said QIC's head of human resource services Peter Howells.

"We wanted something out of the box that did not require a lot of IT resources to exploit the application. Empower-HR meets all our requirements without being unduly complicated," he added.

Like many other organisations, QIC regards non-core activities as candidates for outsourcing. While it did not outsource the entire HR function, switching to ASP-delivered HR software frees the company's IT staff for more important parts of the operation.

"Empower takes care of all the maintenance while we can focus on just using it," said Howells.

The company plans to add to the Empower-HR modules it uses.

QIC has more than $A60 billion funds under management for its clients, which include major superannuation funds.
