The main selling point is one-stop support for the virtualisation system, Linux, and Oracle's database, middleware and applications software. Certified software includes certain releases of Oracle Database, Application Server, Enterprise Manager, TimesTen, Berkeley DB, and E-Business Suite, plus PeopleSoft Enterprise, PeopleTools, Siebel CRM and Hyperion. Oracle provides pre-configured virtual machine images of Oracle Database and Oracle Enterprise Linux, but Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows Server 2004 and XP are also supported on appropriate hardware. "Customers can now optimize resource consolidation by deploying Oracle VM with Oracle Unbreakable Linux, and run the full Oracle software stack -- Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Enterprise Manager and Oracle Applications -- all with one worldwide support call," said Edward Screven, Oracle's chief corporate architect. Oracle VM will shortly be available for free download http://www.oracle.com/virtualization. Support costs $US499 per year for single or dual-CPU servers, or $US999 per year for systems with any number of CPUs.
