The global Wi-Fi alliance has selected US company, JiWire to set up and manage a global wireless hotspot directory.

The directory known as the Wi-Fi Zone Finder (http://wi-fi.jiwire.com) is an online database of Wi-Fi Zone locations around the world using equipment that has passed interoperability testing and been designated as Wi-Fi Certified by the Alliance.

According to the Alliance, "The partnership with JiWire gives Wi-Fi Alliance users the ability to search by location, venue type and provider to find a Wi-Fi Zone hotspot that best meets their needs. Detailed venue information, such as maps, directions, and location amenities, is also provided."

JiWire, founded in 2003, provides information and services to help mobile professionals and computer enthusiasts find and connect to the wireless Internet. It claims relationships with 400 wireless Internet service providers (WISPs) and thousands of independent venues and to offer "the most comprehensive and up-to-date guide to verified public hotspot locations around the world as well as unbiased how-to guides, product reviews, and industry news."
