NEC Australia has been given a pat on the back by Government agency, Airservices Australia, for the timely completion of a two-year project to install the primary communications system for air traffic control in Australia. The completion of the implementation of NEC’s critical systems integration project has come ahead of schedule. Airservices Australia basically commended NEC for a job well done. The Very High Frequency Air Ground Air (VHF AGA) Communications System Upgrade allows vital ground-based personnel to manage the safe and orderly flow of aircraft into, out of and between airports in Australia. The project saw Radios and Radio Interface Controller equipment and Voice Switch Interface Controller (VIC) equipment installed at over 300 main centres and remote sites across Australia. Valued at $34 million, the project has been through the initial infrastructure supply and now involves an ongoing service and support contract to maintain the system. Airservices is confident that NEC will continue to provide high standard service throughout the follow-on support contract. Airservices Australia’s CEO, Greg Russell said, “It is with great pleasure that we commend NEC for their performance. It is rare that one can honestly say that a company has performed so well in the areas of system engineering, project management and in general open and timely communications. The very capable and enthusiastic NEC project team has always been totally committed to our requirements. Their enthusiasm, professionalism and good humour make them a pleasure to work with to achieve our project goals.” NEC Australia’s managing director, Toshiharu Iwasa said, “The NEC team is delighted to receive this award. As the prime contractor, NEC Australia was responsible for the project management, system design, system assembly, integration, verification, staging and acceptance testing. The award further cements the strong track record we have with Airservices Australia, one which we hope will continue into the future.”
