Sony cuts PS2 price ahead of Blu-ray capable PS3 PDF Print E-mail

As it prepares for the release of its new PlayStation 3 console, Sony has slashed the price of its PS2 model to just $129 in order to keep sales ticking over.

The PS3 will herald a new era for Sony, the clear leader of the console games market. It will not only pit the console against Microsoft’s Xbox 360, but it will signal the real beginning of the high definition video wars.

Sony is a key developer of the Blu-ray high definition video standard, while Microsoft backs Toshiba’s HD DVD standard. PS3 is being touted as Blu-ray ready, while Microsoft has made it known that users will be able to buy an add-on that will allow its consoles to play HD DVD.{moscomment}
