Microsoft has made available for download the first release candidate for its new Windows command line interface for systems administrators, previously named Monad, now called Windows Powershell.

A command line in Windows has previously be unavailable to systems administrators, who like the mere PC user mortals had to use a graphical user interface to perform tasks such as storage backups and performance monitoring. The problem is that a GUI isn't flexible or powerful enough for many administrators.

Microsoft also has plans to sell Powershell on its potential Unix migration capabilities. The first release candidate is now available for download from the Microsoft site.{moscomment}
