Office Live, Microsoft's web hosting, email and collaboration service for small businesses, still in beta, will pass the 100,000 user mark early in July and is growing almost as fast as established services such as that from Yahoo! according to Internet research company, Ipwalk. However, whilst in beta the service is free. It is expected to come out of beta at the end of 2006. According to Ipwalk "after an initial burst when Microsoft removed the wait list at the beginning of April, Office Live registrations have stabilised to a more constant rate during May...[when] Office Live had 73,843 domain names tied to its service". Ipwalk says this is a good indication of the amount of registered users because a domain name is included in the package. "If the current rate of registrations remains the same, Office Live will pass 100,000 users during the first half of July this year". Ipwalk suggests that Office Live may be signing up users at a rate close to that of Yahoo! "In the second week in May, Office Live gained 3,830 domain names, while Yahoo gained 7,780. All Office Live domain names are the result of a new user, while Yahoo also offers domain name registrations to existing users. That means that when it comes to gaining new users, Office Live is closer to Yahoo Small Business than it may seem at first glance." Baris Cetinok, director of product management and marketing for Office Live, told Ipwalk that: "The majority of our current customers on Microsoft Office Live are small businesses and we will continue to deliver additional services to address their business needs around sales & marketing, business management, communications and more." At present, Office Live is available only to US residents. Cetinok, told Ipwalk it should come out of beta by the end of 2006, and would expand internationally after that. Up-to-date information on the current number of domain names connected to Office Live can be found on Ipwalk’s Office Live watch page:
