Unisys signs $140m desktop contract with Aust Govt PDF Print E-mail

IT services provider Unisys has signed a four-year contract with the Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA) to provide a range of outsourced desktop services. The contract is worth an estimated AUD$140 million over the initial four years, with the potential for future contract extensions.

The desktop outsourcing contract covers selected end-user computing services, including service desk operations, business support services and applications support; as well as secure e-mail and Internet services.

Unisys anticipates streamlining the IT services, particularly in resolving routine help desk queries, but also by reducing first-level calls. Unisys will also provide services to maintain the stability of the IT infrastructure, improve the associated management reporting, and update and streamline reporting processes.

Tony Henshaw, Vice President Outsourcing Services, Unisys Asia-Pacific, said, “Unisys ability to combine effective IT management services with security has been central to DIMA’s decision to outsource to Unisys.  Providing secure solutions to government goes beyond the obvious measures around data protection and privacy. For DIMA, it means using an IT infrastructure that lets DIMA personnel perform their duties as quickly and as effectively as they need, and in a way that remains accountable. To make this happen, Unisys used its visibility methodology in planning and risk management, in partnership with DIMA, to comprehensively identify, document and agree on the responsibilities that we have to each other.”

“The Australian Federal Government market is a strategically important one for Unisys in the context of a strong international commitment to the public sector and we continue to make significant investments here”, Mr Henshaw said.

This contract is the second signed by Unisys (with DIMA) in the last seven months. The first contract was for biometric solutions and services as part of DIMA’s national Biometrics for Border Control Programme for Australia. Unisys is responsible for supplying systems that will allow immigration officials to authenticate an individual’s identity through facial images and fingerprinting.
