I went to my local Officeworks store today to check out some new hardware. You see my trusty Canon LPP 810 laser printer doesn't have a Vista driver and, from the looks of things, is not likely to get one. I thought this would be a good time to upgrade to a newer Canon. There's only one problem - no Vista drivers for the new Canon laser printers I saw either.

When I complained about this to the store salesman, he said: "Yeah, that's one of the problems with Vista. You better check it out with Canon."

Well it being a Sunday I checked out the Canon website and there was not a mention of Vista to be found for the LBD 5200 that I was interested in. I also checked out the Brother website and couldn't find a Vista driver for a model I may have wanted either.

I had more luck on the HP and Lexmark sites.

I have no doubt that Canon and Brother will get round to releasing Vista drivers but anyway who feels like being forced to buy a new printer when your existing one is perfectly good?

I have also just done some compatibility checks on other computers in my SOHO network. If we want to run Vista with Aero across all the desktops we will not only have to upgrade their graphics cards but we may also have to replace the Belkin 802.11g wireless networking cards. At least that's what I can tell from the Belkin site.

From my previous story on this subject, there are also driver compatibility question marks over my brand new Dell Latitude's NWADI Bus Enumerator which loads built-in drivers at boot time and SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC which provides high fidelity audio.
